Brief History: In essence, the Petit Gascon-Saintongeois is a "reduction" of the Grand Gascon-Saintongeois. It is derived from the Airegeois and other local Briquet hounds to achieve their present size and type. This breed of dog is one of the rarest in France. At the beginning of the 20th century hunters in the south-west of France selected the smallest subjects out of their Grand Gascon-Saintongeois litters and created this breed for the hare hunting.
