| Brief History: The Australian Shepherd does not come from Australian as the name suggests. The Australian Shepherd was developed in the United States to work as a herding dog on ranches. It is said that in 1875 Baxque sheep herders began to migrate to the United States bringing their sheep dogs with them. At that time the dog breed developed into the Australian Shepherd. The Australian Shepherd was recognized by the Canadian and Mexican Kennel Clubs in 1976, and by the United Kennel Club in 1979, but they did not become part of the AKC until 1991 when they were admitted to the Miscellaneous class. |
