Height: The Akita is about 24-26 inches tall.

Weight: The Akita weighs between 75-110 lbs.

Colors: The Akita can be any color including white, brindle and pinto, with or without a mask.

Physical Appearance: The Akita is a large, powerful, and alert dog with much substance and heavy bone. The dog's broad head forms a blunt triangle and has a deep muzzle. The Akita's eyes are small and it's ears are erect and carried forward in line with the back of neck, which is characteristic of the breed. The large, curled tail, balancing the broad head, is also characteristic of the breed.

Temperament/Personality: The Akita is alert and responsive, yet dignified and courageous. The Akita may be aggressive toward other dogs.

Care: The Akita requires minimal grooming. Brush the dog's coat daily and bathe the dog when necessary. This dog breed sheds twice a year.

Brief History: The Akita dates back over three hundred years and takes it's name from northern Japan. Developed in 1630 by a Samurai, the Akita was produced to be an excellent fighter and guardian. In 1931 the Japanese government designated the Akita as a National Monument and one of Japan's national treasures.
