The Akita's eyes are small and it's ears are erect and carried forward in line with the back of neck, which is characteristic of the breed. The large, curled tail, balancing the broad head, is also characteristic of the breed. |

| Brief History: The Akita dates back over three hundred years and takes it's name from northern Japan. Developed in 1630 by a Samurai, the Akita was produced to be an excellent fighter and guardian. In 1931 the Japanese government designated the Akita as a National Monument and one of Japan's national treasures. |
